Our lab focuses on trying to understand the primary processes driving coastal evolution over decadal to centennial timescales. By focusing the processes that drive 80-90% of coastal change, we can predict more accurately how coastal systems will evolve. In particular, we focus on the impacts of climate change on coastal environments with particular emphasis on accelerated rates of sea-level rise. Our research spans a variety of coastal environments from deltas to atolls including lush tropical islands and arctic coasts with everything in between. My students use a variety of tools to analyze coastal evolution including open source morphodynamic models (e.g. Delft3D or XBeach) to remote sensing (Google Earth Engine and Landsat) to lab modeling (recirculating sediment flume).
